Planned exhibition in Munich.
Imperial Journey of 'Java Tea'
Part of our member's research: a global history of Sundanese tea plantation. The exhibition will follow the journey of the 'Java Tea' from its production site in Priangan by Dutch companies and Sundanese laborers to its consumption sites in Northern Germany.
The exhibit will take place in 2026 in the Pavilion 333, Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, in collaboration with and funded by the Architecture Museum of TU Munich.

Past Exhibition
Exibition and Workshops
This project will continue and extend our previous one-day exhibition in Rathaus Hildesheim for celebrating the sister city-hood between Padang and Hildesheim.
We will host more pictures by Phidju Sagala and some workshops on our research voyage plan to Mentawai this year. The exhibition is generously funded by KJRI Hamburg and supported by the Stadt Hildesheim.
Our research voyage will mark our first interdisciplinary research journey, combining insights from sociology (institutional approach), ecology (coastal resillience) and environmental economics (migration).
Stay tuned for our next exhibition in Pavillion 333, Munich in July 2026!

Exhibition at Hildesheim’s Townhall (Rathaus):
“Islands and Mainland”
This exhibition invites audiences to journey across West Sumatra—from the bustling coastal capital Padang, the symbolic point of departure, to the remote Pagai Islands, representing arrival at the outer edges of Indonesia.
Through an intimate collection of photographs taken by Sagonese member during research and field visits, the exhibition reflects on movement, connection, and distance—both physical and emotional.
The exhibition took place at Hildesheim Rathaus as part of its Indonesischer Abend at 30th October 2025 and will be available for public viewing at the venue in February 2026.
